The children of Herb Werst will play host to a surprise open house for their father’s 75th birthday.

The party will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 at Steve’s Place, 31st and Louisiana streets.

Herb Werst owned and operated Countryside Hardwood Floors for more than 34 years. He retired in 1992.

His children are Carolee Meseraull, Lawrence; Brenda Schneck, West Palm Beach, Fla.; Audie Scott Werst, Denton, Texas; Penny Wingert, Lawrence; Darren Werst, Eudora; and Cynthia Leary, Lawrence.

The family requests no gifts.

• Timothy and Cathy Wales, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Kylee Nicole Wales, Oct. 25, 2003, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.

She has two sisters, Sarah, 24, and Stacey, 17.

Maternal grandmother is Sarah Miller, Lawrence.
