The Lone Star 4-H Club met Oct. 13 at Wakarusa Valley School. Members answered roll call by naming their role models. Enrollment cards were handed out. The deadline for turning them in is Dec. 1.

The county achievement celebration will be Nov. 2 in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. The theme is “Castaway to a 4-H Celebration.” A dessert bar will be offered.

A countywide officer training will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the fairgrounds.

The club voted to donate $25 per family to the 4-H Foundation. The club also will have a fund-raiser at the Toy Show on Nov. 8. The club decided to adopt a family at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The budget for the 2003-2004 year was reviewed and approved.

The 2002-2003 officers received thank-you gifts from the community leaders. The 2003-2004 officers were installed. A presentation about Citizenship Washington Focus was given. The club members participated in a project fair quiz bowl.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the school. The club will have an achievement dinner and awards ceremony.

• The Eudora 4-H Club met Oct. 6 at St. Paul United Church of Christ. Hosts were the Reese and Werst families. Members discussed plans for the annual fun meeting.

Jim Ashcraft and Haven Boughton, 4-H youths from Douglas County, gave a presentation about their Washington Focus trip. The Washington Focus trip is a 4-H sponsored trip for youths older than 15 in Douglas County.

New officers were installed, and each officer received a pen from the leaders.

The club is planning a 50th anniversary celebration Nov. 22 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. All current members will be attending; however, past 4-H members also are encouraged to attend. If interested, call Pam Hadl at 542-2418 or Jamie Knabe at 542-2597.

The club had its Halloween party Oct. 25. Festivities included a scavenger hunt, spooky stories, a potluck meal and a hayrack ride.

The Douglas County achievement celebration will be Nov. 2 at the fairgrounds.
