Learning center will use gift to expand services

More low-income children will be able to attend the Strategic Learning Center thanks to a gift provided by the Sabatini Family Foundation.

The gift will allow the center, which provides guidance in basic study skills to about 150 children a year, to serve more students. The gift was made to the Kansas University Endowment Association, which declined to release the amount of the donation at the request of the Sabatini Foundation.

KU students in the School of Education are most of the center’s staff. Its methods were developed by studies from the KU Center for Research on Learning.

It has two locations — in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H., and one in Topeka. It plans to expand into Kansas City.
