Engineers were instructed to begin drawing plans for a Kaw River bridge at Eudora, even though financing had not been completed by the Douglas and Leavenworth county commissioners. The old bridge had been out of use since an ice jam had wrecked it in late January 1962.

IN 1903

From the Lawrence Daily World of May 28, 1903: “The Kaw River is up as high as it has been in years, and it is still going higher. The water has not yet broken over into Grant Township, but it took the combined effects of 75 sturdy workmen all last night to prevent the catastrophe and at about 3 a.m., there was a critical and anxious time. The water is high everywhere, and chances are it will be some time before we see ordinary conditions. More rain, also, is in the forecast. … There was a fire at the brick plant last night, and the strange part is that the fire was caused by high water. The water took possession of the grounds. That forced the fire up through the pipes, and the sheds were burned. The water also did some damage to the brick kiln.”
