National League Roundup: Rockies walk over Dodgers

Walker has four RBIs as Colorado snaps Los Angeles' 10-game winning streak

? Larry Walker might be emerging from his season-long hitting slump, and he’s doing it by walking more.

Walker drove in four runs, helping Aaron Cook and Colorado snap Los Angeles’ 10-game winning streak, 7-3, Tuesday night.

The Dodgers’ winning streak was their longest since they won 11 straight in 1993.

“Beating a team like that that’s been hot, it has to do a lot for our confidence,” Rockies outfielder Jay Payton said. “Maybe this will get us on a little bit of a roll.”

It was the Rockies’ third straight win.

The Rockies tagged Kazuhisa Ishii (4-2) for five runs in the first inning, including Walker’s two-run triple and a key error by first baseman Fred McGriff.

Walker added a bases-loaded, two-run single off Guillermo Mota in the seventh.

Walker has drawn 14 walks in the past six games, including one Tuesday night.

“That’s a big step,” he said. “Even though there are not hits there, it has helped my confidence as far as seeing the ball better and not just flailing away at everything.

“I’m swinging at better pitches. Now I’m being more selective at the plate and not hacking at everything they throw up there. If I continue to do that, things will be all right,” he said.

Walker has gone 5-for-7 in the past two games, raising his average to .267.

Brewers 4, Padres 2

San Diego — Pinch-hitters Brady Clark and Keith Ginter had consecutive two-run singles with two outs in the ninth inning, rallying Milwaukee in a matchup of the NL’s worst teams. It was the 25th loss in 29 games for the Padres, who started the day percentage points ahead of Detroit for the worst record in the majors. The Tigers (13-37) lost to Cleveland. San Diego is 14-38 and Milwaukee 19-32.
