Longhorns snag Big 12 baseball title – Texas 10, Baylor 8, 10 innings

? Curtis Thigpen, the No. 9 hitter in the Texas lineup, hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Longhorns a 10-8 victory over Baylor for their second straight Big 12 Conference tournament title Sunday.

Thigpen set a tournament record with five hits — only one of the other four left the infield — and he scored four times in helping the Longhorns (43-17) come back from a 6-1 deficit.

Thigpen’s fifth homer of the season came with one out and Seth Johnston on second after being hit by a pitch by Tyler Bullock (0-1) and moving up on a sacrifice bunt.

The victory gives Texas an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns will play host to a regional next weekend. Baylor (41-21) will wait for an at-large bid.

Mark Saccomanno had four hits and scored four runs for Baylor.

The Longhorns scored twice in the eighth inning to take an 8-6 lead, but ace reliever Huston Street (8-0) failed to close it out.

Street, the sixth Texas pitcher, gave up a single and two straight walks to load the bases with none out in the ninth. A groundout scored one run and a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Zach Dillon tied the game.

Street had gotten out of trouble in the eighth after the Longhorns tied the score a 6.
