Thorpe shares top spot

? Jim Thorpe shot a 6-under-par 64, and Morris Hatalsky had a 65 on Saturday to share the second-round lead in the Champions Tour’s Columbus Southern Open.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this position, so I’m going to cherish the moment for a while,” said Thorpe, a five-time winner on the tour.

Hatalsky is seeking his second senior victory.

Thorpe and Hatalsky had 9-under 131 totals on the Green Island Country Club course for a one-stroke lead over Doug Tewell (64), Tom Jenkins (65), Allen Doyle (66) and Ireland’s Des Smith (66).

Jim Ahern (65) and Dana Quigley (67) were two strokes back, and Tom Kite (68) and Ed Dougherty (69) followed at 134.

The muscular Thorpe will be paired with the slight Hatalsky today.

“Thank goodness we’re playing golf and not arm wrestling,” Hatalsky said.
