New Kansas History Center trail to be dedicated June 7
Topeka ? The final section of the Kansas History Center Nature Trail will be dedicated at 10 a.m. June 7 as part of National Trails Day.
The Kansas State Historical Society will recognize the Westar Energy Green Team and Boy Scouts who were involved in finishing the final portion of the trail.
The dedication ceremony will include introductions and brief remarks by six Boy Scouts who will receive Eagle badges for their projects, a flag ceremony and recognition of the Westar Green Team and Girl Scouts who placed bluebird houses on the trail.
Following the ceremony, the fourth trail section will be opened and visitors will have an opportunity to explore learning centers.
National Trails Day, a nationwide observance, has been sponsored since 1992 by the American Hiking Society.
At over 3,000 events nationwide, trail clubs, retailers, federal agencies, municipal parks, land trusts and businesses come together the first Saturday of each June to celebrate trails, recognize volunteers and maintain local trails.
This year’s theme is “Healthy Trails, Healthy People!”
