John F. “Jack” Himpel Sr.

? Services for John F. “Jack” Himpel Sr., 80, Tonganoxie, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mr. Himpel died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Tonganoxie, the son of Arthur and Cecile (Crady) Himpel.

Mr. Himpel was a carpenter and a building contractor.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He had served on the Tonganoxie City Council and as the city’s fire chief. He also had served on the Tonganoxie board of education.

He married Margie Coburn on April 26, 1947. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include four sons, Jack Jr. and Mark, both of Tonganoxie, A.W. “Rocky,” Oskaloosa, and Jeff, Basehor; five daughters, Georgina Bellman, Winslow, Ariz., and Beverly Wiles, Susan Herrstrom, Diane Bretthauer and Bobbi McClellan, all of Tonganoxie; three brothers, Arthur “Bo” and Donald, both of Tonganoxie, and Billy, Lenexa; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
