The Pelathe District had its annual Webelos Graduation Weekend May 9-11 at Camp Bromelsick. Bear Cubs became Webelos on May 9. Activities on May 10 included whittling chip cards, making knots, cooking with tin cans, building a fire, archery, learning first aid, banana relay and cooking with foil.

More than 200 Cub Scouts, leaders and parents attended. About 60 adults and youths from Boy Scout troops and venturing crews also attended. Cub Scout Packs that attended included 3051, 3052, 3055, 3057, 3059, 3064, 3071, 3072, 3077 and 3462. Troop 52 played host to the event with help from members of Troops 55, 59, 64 and Venturing Crew 2052. Wayne Deaver served as the camp Scoutmaster.

The following boys and leaders from Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, took part in the weekend: William Gibson, Trey Anderson, Dylan Sauer, Justin Stearns and Trevor Norris. Adult leaders Harold Aiken, Rod Zinn, Bill Rogers and Tom Anderson also attended.

  • Seventeen Scouts and leaders from Troop 53, chartered to the First Christian Church of Lawrence, participated in the Spring Induction Weekend for Order of the Arrow May 16-18 at Camp Naish. The Order of the Arrow is a national scouting honor organization. Six Scouts and one adult leader became Ordeal members after completing certain tests and remaining silent for 24 hours. They were Alex Webster, Brian Teefey, David Teefey, Jimmy Kelley, Scott Shreders, Tim Muetz and Eric Muetz.

Aaron Ideus, Hamilton Lewis, Julian Spangler, Chris Berger, Robert Larrabee, Craig Grant and George Lottes advanced to the Brotherhood Rank in Order of the Arrow. Other attendees were Mitchell Grant, Order of the Arrow troop representative; Ron Spangler, Scoutmaster; and Kip Grosshans, OA troop adviser.
