Calvary Temple Assembly of God

An all-church dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

Drinks and table service will be provided. The Rev. Marshall Lackrone will deliver the message after the meal.

First Presbyterian Church

The staff of First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will serve breakfast to the congregation at 9:45 a.m. Sunday during the Sunday church school hour.

“Resurrection and a Safe Community” will be the title of the sermon at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.

First United Methodist Church

Registration for a new Sunday School rotation, “Jesus Calming the Storm,” will be held Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The rotation for children in first through sixth grades will involve lessons on art, cooking, computers, drama, science, games and videos.

Prairie Worship will be held at 5:30 p.m. every Saturday and 7 p.m. every Sunday, starting May 31, at the church’s West Campus at the southwest corner of the junction of U.S. Highway 40 and Kansas Highway 10.

Grace Episcopal Church

Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa, 315 W. Fifth St., will show its stained glass windows to the community from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 1.

During that time, Sandy Moore and Sandra Cain will present an art show and Evaline Campbell will play the organ.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

A one-day vacation Bible school event for all ages will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 at Centennial Park, Sixth Street and Rockledge Road.

The community is invited to attend this intergenerational event, sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets.

This year’s theme is “Old Testament Days,” featuring activities organized into various learning centers for youths and adults. The event is free, and lunch will be provided.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Members of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., will congratulate its senior high graduates during Sunday services.

There will be a breakfast for graduates and their families at 8:15 a.m. Sunday in the Mayflower Room.

The church’s bell choir leaves Wednesday for a concert tour, with performances in Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia, including a special concert at Christ Church.

All handbell activities are under the direction of Barbara and Bill Kelly.

St. James AME Church

St. James AME Church, Seventh and Maple streets, will hold a fish fry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7.

Dinners will cost $7 and include a choice of catfish or spaghetti, vegetable, bread, dessert and beverage.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

Parish high school seniors are invited to participate in the 8:30 a.m. Sunday liturgy at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

Those seniors who responded to their invitations will be served breakfast by the Pastoral Council after the service.

Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Cemetery. There will be no 7:30 a.m. liturgy that morning. In case of bad weather, the Mass will be in the church.

The feast of the Ascension, formerly celebrated on the 40th day after Easter, has been moved to a Sunday so that more people can participate.

A regular 7:30 a.m. Thursday Mass will be held to celebrate the Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter.

Ascension will be celebrated the weekend of June 1.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

“Celebrating God’s Love” is the theme of services held during Memorial Day weekend at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The 5:30 p.m. Sunday contemporary service will feature a New Zealand-style celebration of Communion.

The church’s children will also celebrate the conclusion of this year’s GIFT program with a party at the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services. The children’s summer program starts June 1.

The 2003-2004 Christian Education program’s planning meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:3 p.m. Tuesday.

The first walk of the Women of St. Margaret’s walking group will be held Saturday. Those who are interested in participating should meet in the parking lot of Pachamama’s, 2161 Quail Creek Drive, for a two-mile walk.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will hold a spiritual celebration, “The Place of Religion in Our Consumerist Culture,” from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

A program recognizing teachers will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a potluck picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Unity Church of Lawrence

“A Bid for Unity,” an auction and social event to benefit Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane, will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 20 at the Lawrence Visitor Information Center, 402 N. Second St.

University Community of Christ

A program to help people protect themselves from con artists and scams will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 4 at University Community of Christ, 1900 University Drive.

Sgt. Mark Warren of the Lawrence Police Department will present the program about scam artists, including information on some of the most common scams.

The event, which is part of the regular Prime Timers meeting, is open to the community. A short time for fellowship and refreshments will follow Warren’s program.

The Prime Timers meet the first Wednesday of each month for programs geared toward senior citizens. There is no charge to attend, and refreshments are provided.

West Side Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Bill Stype will fill the pulpit Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive. His sermon title is “Crackpot Religiosity,” based on John 15: 9-17.

On Wednesday, the Dorcas Circle will meet at 1:30 p.m., the bell choir will convene at 7 p.m. and the voice choir at 7:30 p.m.

The Faris Family Singers will perform a concert at 7 p.m. June 1 at the church. The concert will feature bluegrass and gospel renditions.

A freewill offering will be taken, and the event is open to the public.

Plans are under way for the Son Harvest County Fair 2003 vacation church school from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. June 16.
