University Bridge Club announces the winners of its May 17 game, which was given by Henry and Gini Wigington and Archie and Cathy Mills.

Blue winners were Dale Kring, first; Harold Riehn, second; Tom Waller, third; Carl Schaake, fourth; and Karmie Galle, fifth.

Pink winners were Edna Galle, first; Hazel Stellmacher, second; Marty Hartman, third; Wanda Kring, fourth; and Ailene Bocquin, fifth.


  • The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met May 4 for its weekly game. Eight pairs competed in a Stratified game that used a Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Julie Ward and Ann Thompson claimed first place in A and B. Frances Vogel and Alice Leitch finished second. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed third in A and second in B.


  • The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met May 6 for its weekly game. Eight and a half tables competed in a Stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Playing North-South, Suzanne Wassmer and Shirlie Vaughn finished first in A and B. Patt Radford and Sally Taylor placed second. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed third in A, second in B and first in C.

Competing East-West, Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman placed first. Jim Gunn and Harry Shaffer finished second. Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks placed third in A and first in B. Yvonne Hedges and Shirley Reese came in second in B.

Olivier Urruty and Dan Osman claimed first place. Don Brennaman and Artie Shaw placed second. Jan Darting and Janet Williams finished first in B and C. Julie Ward and Ann Thompson placed second in B and C.

Sitting North-South, Don Brennaman and Betty Spalsbury claimed first place in A, B and C. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed second in A, B and C. Chris Lane and Sally Davis finished third in A and B.

Competing East-West, Cathy Blumenfeld and Mike Blumenfeld placed first in A, B and C. Harry Shaffer and Jim Gunn came in second. Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman placed third. Ilse Steinhardt and Bebe Huxtable finished second in B and C.


  • The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge met Monday for its weekly game. The Stratified game used a Mitchell movement and attracted eight tables. Virginia Seaver directed the game.

Competing North-South, Klee Zaricky and Chris Lane claimed first place in A and B. Bill Schutzel and Jerry Sloan took second. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed third. Pat Burgstahler and Martie Hartman placed second in B and first in C.

Sitting East-West, Mary Fenlon and Dave Piro finished first. Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver placed second, followed by John Hickey and Patt Radford. Alice Leitch and Frances Vogel placed first in B and C.
