Patrick Ketter, Lecompton, and Dan Stahl, Lawrence, both received a $1,000 Sam Walton Community Scholarship as part of the Sam Walton Community Leader Award program sponsored by Wal-Mart associates.

  • Washburn University, Topeka, announces area spring 2003 graduation candidates. Commencement ceremonies took place May 16-17.

  • Eric Spray, Free State High School senior, received a Trustee’s Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, Ohio. The merit scholarship was awarded as a result of an art portfolio competition at the college. He is the son of Larry and Tammy Spray, Lawrence.
  • Miriam Hillmer, Lawrence, will receive a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, in music education from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sunday.
  • Anne Kettle, Lawrence, has accepted admission to St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., for the fall semester. St. Olaf College is a liberal arts institution.
  • Alayna Stewart, McLouth High School senior, received the Dale Dennis Excellence in Education award sponsored by United School Administrators and Jostens of Kansas.
  • Karen Ebmeier, Lawrence, was inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, a political science honorary, during the Honors Convocation May 9 at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln, Neb.
  • Julia Hurst and Jennifer Kratz, both of Lawrence, have been selected to join the Drake University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national freshman honorary society for students achieving a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. Hurst is the daughter of Charles and Ruth Hurst, Lawrence. Kratz is the daughter of Anne and Gordon Kratz, Lawrence.

  • The Baldwin High School Class of 1968 will have its 35th reunion July 19 at the Delbert Sheldon residence. All members of BHS Class of ’68 are encouraged to attend, and they may bring guests. Graduates of the classes of 1967 and 1969 also are welcome, as well as teachers, coaches and administrators who were a part of the BHS staffthen.

The reunion will begin at 4 p.m. with a catered barbecue served at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Anyone wishing to make reservations, or needing more information may contact Margi Walbridge at (785) 594-6947 or P.O. Box 235, Baldwin. The deadline to make reservations is July 11.

  • The Lawrence High School Class of 1973 will be having its 30-year reunion Aug. 8-9.

There will be an informal gathering at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Johnny’s Tavern, 401 N. Second St.

A formal gathering will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive. There will be a buffet and music. Rooms are available at a discount until July 10. The cost is $30 per person. Make checks payable to LHS Class of 1973. Registration is due by June 15.

  • Daniel Musgrave, a 2003 graduate of Baldwin High School, will receive a Trustee Honor Merit Scholarship for $48,000 from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa. Daniel is the son of Chris Potter and John Musgrave, Baldwin, and the grandson of Charlene Potter, Baldwin.
