Authorities have arrested a motorist suspected of striking a pedestrian with his pickup truck and leaving the scene of the fatal accident.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was killed Sunday as he walked his dog on a paved road north of Topeka. The dog apparently wasn’t hurt, Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Gowan said.

Deputies said they arrested the suspect after they found him in a wooded area not far from an abandoned, damaged pickup truck.

Gowan said deputies were investigating the possibility that alcohol was involved in the incident.
