Junior Girl Scout Troop 454 had an awards and bridging ceremony Monday in South Park.

Brittany Mailand, Rebecca O’Brien and Martha Allen, all fifth graders, earned the following badges: architecture, camp together, dance, fun & fit, food power, Girl Scouts around the world, Girl Scouts in the USA, healthy relationships, local lore and world neighbors. Martha and Brittany also earned court sports. Brittany also received caring for children, making music and swimming.

The girls earned the Junior Aide Patch while helping with Nancy Keel’s Kindergarten Daisy Troop. The girls earned the Sign of the Rainbow, one of four signs that can be earned as a Junior Scout. The girls attended Camp Daisy Hindman last summer. They also helped with community service projects including March for Meals and a global dinner to raise awareness of the poor and hungry in the world.

These badges and projects allowed the girls to complete all the requirements to earn the Bronze Award, the highest award available to Junior Scouts.

Scouts and leaders from Troop 59, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, participated in Order of the Arrow Induction weekend May 2-4 at Camp Naish. Britt Beasley, John Bergman, Joe Stogsdill and Brian Workman became Ordeal Members in the Order of the Arrow. They were joined by Kathy Bergman and Mark Workman, adult leaders. Chris Bergman advanced to Brotherhood status in the Order of the Arrow. The Order of the Arrow is the Boy Scouts’ National Honor Society, which has more than 176,000 members nationwide.

Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to the West Side Presbyterian Church, went camping April 25-27 at Perry Lake. Scouts earned service hours by making trails and clearing debris. They also worked on advancement requirements. Ken Myers was the adult leader in charge at the camping trip. Scouts who participated were Kameron Gibler, Wolfgang Johanning, Joseph Vannicola, Kenny Myers, Jared Willits, Chance McKinney, Josh Gore, James Murphy, Andrew Boyd, Sam Hird, Adam Meyers, Michael Rubow, Jacob Christilles and Drew Braden.
