KU track headed to Big 12

? Kansas University’s men’s and women’s track teams will be shooting for first-division finishes in the Big 12 Outdoor championships today through Monday at Texas University’s Meyers Stadium.

Kansas returns three Big 12 Outdoor champions in senior Benaud Shirley (triple jump), junior Leo Bookman (200 dash) and sophomore Brooklyn Hann (triple jump).

All three already have qualified for the NCAA regionals in their respective events and are ranked among the top 10 performers in the Big 12 this spring.

After the league meet, the Jayhawks will head to the NCAA Midwest Regional qualifier May 30-31 in Lincoln, Neb. Kansas has 34 athletes eligible to compete in one or more events at that meet.

KU’s men and women finished fourth and eighth at last year’s Big 12 Outdoor in Columbia, Mo.

Nebraska is the defending men’s champion. Kansas State has won back-to-back women’s titles.
