Harwell to unretire for 1 game

? Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell will be a guest television analyst June 1 when Detroit plays New York at Comerica Park, Fox Sports Net announced Thursday.

“It’s no comeback,” Harwell, 85, said Thursday night. “It’s just a little appearance. No more and no less, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Harwell, who retired last year after his 55th season of broadcasting major league games, will replace Rod Allen and join play-by-play announcer Mario Impemba on the cable broadcast in Michigan and parts of Ohio and Indiana.

“It will be a delight and an honor to share the booth with Ernie,” Impemba said. “It is going to be a special day for Tigers fans.”

Allen will miss the game because of a family commitment.
