Infant remains found

The long-decomposed remains of three infants were found amid bed linens and paperwork abandoned in a storage locker in Safford, authorities said.

Deputies are trying to find the people who last paid rent on the unit in 1994, Graham County Undersheriff Dave Boyd said.

A man who bought the shed’s contents for $75 at a weekend auction called authorities Monday after finding one body as he rummaged through the boxes.

One infant’s body had been wrapped in a bedspread and placed in a box. The other two were in the same box, wrapped in plastic. The bodies had been there at least eight years, authorities said.

Firefighters charged in arsons, kidnapping

Five Brookville volunteer firefighters were charged with intentionally setting fires, and three of the men were charged with kidnapping and threatening a witness.

The fires at four vacant buildings since October did not injure anyone. Authorities said they were searching for a motive.

Police Chief Ken Dworek said numerous witnesses, including other firefighters, began coming forward after the third fire in December.

According to criminal complaints, three of the accused men — including the fire chief — took one of the witnesses, a fellow firefighter, to a remote camp May 1.

The witness was “terrorized” into admitting he’d given information to police implicating the men, investigators said in the complaint.

FDA panel endorses asthma prevention drug

The first drug designed to prevent asthma was endorsed Thursday by a panel of experts for the Food and Drug Administration.

The new drug, called Xolair, has been hailed by allergy doctors as a revolution in asthma treatment that could improve life enormously for the 3 million Americans who suffer frequent bouts of the breath-robbing disease.

The partnership that makes the drug hopes to win final FDA approval this summer and have it on the market for the second half of the allergy season.

Teens face charges after raucous parties

More than 50 teenagers are facing charges after dozens of partygoers took over two houses while the owners were away and stole jewelry and electronics and left behind empty liquor bottles and destruction.

A Wheaton family returned April 5 from a trip to Mexico to find its house in shambles. Blood streaked the bathroom floors, mud caked the carpet, and the walls had holes where partygoers shot arrows with a hunting bow. About $50,000 worth of furs, jewelry, electronics and guns were missing.

About 15 miles away in Hinsdale, another vacationing family arrived home April 4 to find more party remains. Police said close to $20,000 worth of jewelry, electronics and art was stolen. About $10,000 worth of jewelry has since been recovered.
