Thunderstorms expected after 9 p.m.

Lawrence can expect to be spared from thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. But some severe weather could threaten the area late Tuesday night.

“Clouds are slowly going to start increasing and we are expecting thunderstorms to roll in this evening,” said Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist.

“We can’t totally rule out some severe weather. What we’re looking at is gusty winds and large hail,” Janssen. “It’s not going to be until way later this evening. We’re probably looking at closer to midnight. The best time for rain and thunderstorms is going to be after 9 o’clock.”

Lawrence received about 0.1 of an inch between 10 a.m. and noon Tuesday.

The forecast for Wednesday, calls for the morning low to be 59. The skies will start out cloudy and end up partly cloudy, with breezy northwesterly winds and a high of 75.

Thursday morning’s temperature will be 53, with the high reach 71 in the afternoon, under mostly sunny skies.

Friday will be a little cooler, with temperatures ranging from 53 in morning to 69 in the afternoon, when there’s a chance for thunderstorms and showers.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy, with 71 for the high and 56 for the low.

Kansas University’s commencement ceremonies on Sunday are expected to be dry. Sunday is expected to start out with a low of 55, with decreasing clouds through the day and a high of 73.
