Kansas City, Mo.: Interim dean starts at UMKC law school

Jeffrey Berman will serve as interim dean at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.

Berman’s first day was Monday. Berman has served as an associate dean at the school for nearly 20 years, most recently as the associate dean for faculty.

He replaces Burnele Powell, who announced this year he wanted to return to teaching.

Emporia: Authorities seize 300 pounds of marijuana

Authorities have seized 300 pounds of marijuana from suitcases in a rental van stopped on Interstate 35 for a license plate violation.

A Lyon County Sheriff’s deputy arrested two California men early Sunday after stopping the van in which they were traveling, a dispatcher said.

The deputy got the men’s consent to search the van and found the marijuana with an estimated street value of $600,000.
