Lawrence painter hangs Kentucky show

Lexington, Ky. — Paintings by Lawrence artist Nancy Christy-Moore will be on display beginning Friday in a two-person show called “Horsing Around” at the New Editions Gallery.

A reception for the show will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the gallery.

Christy-Moore’s work will hang alongside the sculptures of Lexington artist Ted Kennedy.

Area photographer to give Fields Gallery talk

Area photographer Bob Lindholm will discuss his work during a gallery talk titled “Vanishing Vistas” from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fields Gallery, 712 Mass.

Lindholm established Photography for the Outdoors in 1978. Its aim has been toward conservation and protection of the natural world through fine art photography and publications. He was awarded the Sierra Club Ansel Adams Award and was William Least-Heat Moon’s expedition photographer for the book “Blue Highways.”

His talk is the third in a series of discussions the gallery has organized so artists can share ideas and approaches to their work. For more information, call the gallery at 842-7187.

Free State Symphony to recognize seniors

The Free State Symphony Orchestra will play a Senior Recognition Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Free State High School auditorium, 4700 Overland Drive.

Twenty-four seniors will be recognized during the concert

Admission is free.

Program highlights include the final movement of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3; “Skylife” by David Balakrishnan, a member of the Turtle Island String Quartet; “A Place in the Heart” by local composer Bill Crahan; and the William Tell Overture.

Lynn Basow directs the orchestra.

El Dorado art shows make call for entries

El Dorado — July deadlines are approaching for two juried art shows in El Dorado.

A national exhibit at the Erman B. White Gallery on the Butler County Community College campus is accepting entries of two-dimensional and wall-mounted works, such as assemblages and low-relief pieces. Artwork must not protrude more than 12 inches from the wall. Juror for the show is David Kohan.

A regional exhibit at the Coutts Memorial Museum of Art is accepting entries from Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas. Acceptable media are watercolor, oil, acrylic, fiber art, drawing/mixed media and original prints. Juror is Andrea Norris, director of Kansas University’s Spencer Museum of Art.

Best-in-show honors for both exhibits are worth $1,500, and additional award money will be given. The entry fee is $30 for three slides, and the deadline is July 21.

Agricultural Center features wood artist

Bonner Springs — Work by internationally recognized artist Don Woodard will be featured during the month of May at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame.

Woodard’s hand-carved “pictures in wood” are inspired by his experiences with pack trips through the Rocky Mountains and various ranches in his home state of Colorado.

The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame is just north of Interstate-70 in Bonner Springs. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
