Task force on homeless services named

Mayor David Dunfield on Tuesday named a 17-member Task Force on Homeless Services that will attempt to create a comprehensive city approach to the issue.

Lawrence City Commissioner Mike Rundle will chair the task force. He will be joined by Rich Forney of the Salvation Army; Tom Wright, Lawrence Open Shelter; Bruce Martin, Pelathe Center; Tami Clark, Community Drop-In Center; Randy Beeman, Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen and First Christian Church; Sara Terwelp, Women’s Transitional Care Services; Barbara Tucker, Haskell Indian Nations University; Helen Hartnett, Kansas University; David Johnson, Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center; Candi Davis, Oread Neighborhood Assn.; Jim Schneider, a clinical psychologist; Barbara Huppee, Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority; Shirley Martin-Smith, ADECO; Bruce Beale, DCCCA; and Katherine Dinsdale, a former Salvation Army board member.

Rundle said he didn’t know when the task force would begin meetings. The group’s work is expected to be complete within a year.
