American League Roundup: Tigers log second win in a row

? It doesn’t happen often, so the Detroit Tigers can be forgiven for being uncertain how to celebrate their first winning streak since August.

After the Tigers won a second straight game by beating the Baltimore Orioles, 6-1, Monday night, some of the players whooped it up in the clubhouse.

Most, however, just played it cool.

“There hasn’t been too much to be excited about. That’s why it’s quiet in here,” winning pitcher Nate Cornejo said. “We know we’ve been struggling.”

The Tigers (5-25) still own the worst record in the majors, but now at least they’ve won two straight — a feat that eluded them over 64 games following a three-game run that began in Baltimore Aug. 18.

It was the longest stretch without a winning streak since the 1980 Seattle Mariners endured an identical 64-game drought, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Detroit was 9-55 before beating Tampa Bay Sunday and defeating the Orioles for the first time in four tries this year.
