Lynch to conduct last gig of season

John Lynch, KU director of bands, will conduct his final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when the KU Wind Ensemble joins with the KU Choirs for a Lied Center performance.

The lower string sections of the KU Symphony Orchestra also will be featured.

The program will include pieces by both 19th- and 20th-century composers, including Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms,” and Brahm’s “Liebeslieder Waltzes.”

The concert will include a special farewell to Dean Toni Marie-Montgomery, who is leaving in June to become dean of the School of Music at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Tickets are $7 for the public, $5 for students and seniors, and are available at the Lied Center, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall, 864-3982; and SUA, 864-SHOW.
