Just hours before the regular season began Sunday, the Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants wrapped up the spring training schedule.

Ryan Franklin pitched four solid innings in Seattle’s 3-1 victory over the Giants in San Francisco. He and five relievers combined on an eight-hitter.

“I gained a lot of confidence today in using my curve,” Franklin said. “My game is pitching for contact. A curve gives me another pitch to use as a way to keep opponents off balance.”

Franklin walked two and struck out one. The right-hander is scheduled to make his first start of the regular season Friday in Texas.

Marquis Grissom homered for San Francisco. Giants prospect Jesse Foppert gave up two runs — one earned — in five innings. He struck out five and took the loss.

“He pitches like he’s been up in the majors for 10 years,” manager Felipe Alou said.

Athletics 12, River Cats 1

At Sacramento, Calif., Miguel Tejada hit a grand slam off John Halama to lead Oakland over its Triple-A affiliate. Jermaine Dye, Ramon Hernandez and Scott Hatteberg also homered for the A’s.

Rockies 7, Drillers 1

At Tulsa, Okla., Chris Stynes hit a grand slam off Scott Elarton as Colorado beat its Double-A affiliate. Greg Norton added a two-run drive.

White Sox 4, Barons 3

At Birmingham, Ala., D’Angelo Jimenez scored the deciding run in the ninth inning as Chicago beat its Double-A affiliate. Miguel Olivo, the 2002 Southern League playoff MVP, went 2-for-4 with a triple and a RBI for the White Sox.
