Martin R. ‘Mart’ Jeffers

? Graveside services with American Legion honors for Martin R. “Mart” Jeffers, 70, Oskaloosa, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.

Mr. Jeffers died Friday, March, 28, 2003, at the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Jefferson County.

He was born July 12, 1932, in McLouth, the son of Ray Henry “Jeff” and Harriett A. Grace Jeffers. He was a 1950 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a lifelong resident of the Oskaloosa and McLouth areas.

Mr. Jeffers worked as the city maintenance man for Oskaloosa for 25 years, retiring in 1994. After his retirement he worked as a salvage dealer and recycling technician.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of Bicentennial American Legion Post No. 225 of Ozawkie and Luck Spur saddle club in Oskaloosa.

He married Lou Patterson on Aug. 11, 1956, in Oskaloosa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Jeff, Valley Falls; a daughter, Marta “Marty” Newell, Valley Falls; a brother, Roger, Oskaloosa; a sister, Jan Brax, Assaria; and three grandsons.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.
