Virgil and Bonnie King, Lecompton, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the American Legion in Perry.

Virgil King and Bonnie McMurrian were married March 18, 1953, in Wilburton, Okla.

They owned and operated a service station from 1978 to 1988 in Perry. Virgil was employed by Ironworkers Local No. 10 for 30 years. Bonnie was a homemaker. They were foster parents for more than 25 children from 1988 to 1998.

Their children are Rick and Susan King, Tecumseh; Kathy and Steve Fox, Oskaloosa; Eric and Linda King, Millbrook, Ala.; Brenda and Bill Willis, Lecompton; Kent and Pauline King, Perry; Gayle and Rick Rupple, Lecompton, and Jenny King, Lecompton. They have 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
