Consequences

To the editor:

I wish to comment on a letter from Alan Cobb which was printed in the March 18 edition of the Journal-World.

One of Mr. Cobb’s observations was the American flag contains no yellow. I observe that the flag contains no green. While all of us wish for God’s blessing for the troops in the Gulf region and for our nation, I have heard nothing about God’s willingness to pay for another Gulf war or the occupation of Iraq afterwards.

One of the criticisms of this war is its estimated cost when the economy is weak, the national debt hovering in the stratosphere, and the nation as a whole not convinced of the immediate necessity of military action.

I do hope Mr. Cobb has convinced younger members of his family to assume any debt for a war with Iraq well into the future just as my generation was saddled with the failure of Reaganomics. When waving the flag and beating the drums of war, we should take time to soberly assess the consequences of our actions into the years ahead.
