CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ? Drew Hall hit a tiebreaking three-pointer with 58.2 seconds left, and Mike Sweetney had 22 points and seven rebounds Wednesday night as Georgetown advanced to the NIT semifinals with a 79-74 victory over North Carolina.

The Hoyas (18-14) have won three straight road games. They will play the winner of tonight’s Minnesota-Temple game.

Gerald Riley scored 11 of his 22 points during a 22-4 run midway through the second half to break open a tight game and help deny the Tar Heels (19-16) a 20-win season one year after going a program-worst 8-20.

Lubbock, Texas — Andre Emmett scored 29 points to send Bob Knight to the NIT semifinals for the sixth time in his 37 years as a head coach. It is the first time the Red Raiders have been one of the final four teams in any postseason tournament. They reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament in 1996 and last played in the NIT in ’95.
