Law enforcement report

  • A Rottweiler mix bit an animal-control officer on the shin Friday morning in the 2500 block of West Sixth Street, according to a police report released Tuesday. The officer was responding to a call about a loose dog. When she arrived, she saw the dog playing with people outside the apartment building. “The dog then charged her and bit her on the lower left shin,” Sgt. Mike Pattrick said. The dog was quarantined for a 10-day rabies observation period, and police cited the owner, a 23-year-old male who lives in the building, for having an animal at large.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 59-year-old Lawrence man reported that a burglar broke into his home in the 1900 block of Vermont Street and took $3,000 in jewelry, including two $1,000 diamond tennis bracelets. The theft happened sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a police report.
  • Someone broke into an apartment in the 2500 block of West 31st Street and took a projector worth $8,000, according to a report. It happened sometime between March 13 and Sunday. Also missing are a DVD player, a computer and a home theater system. The items belonged to two 21-year-old Lawrence men who live in the apartment.
  • An employee of the Ramada Inn, 2222 W. Sixth St., is suspected of stealing $1,200 in equipment from the inn, including a paint gun and an air compressor. The theft happened between March 5 and March 13, according to a police report.
  • A 22-year-old Lecompton man told police someone took stereo equipment worth $2,350 from his car outside a night club in the 1000 block of East 23rd St. It happened Sunday between 1:30 a.m. and 2:01 a.m.
  • A 37-year-old woman told police someone took a $1,500 diamond ring, a gold necklace, a pair of earrings, perfume, video games and other items from her home in the 1900 block of East 19th Street. The woman knows the suspect in the theft, which happened on the afternoon of March 19, according to a report.
