‘Jayni’s Kitchen’ features author’s secret recipes

Host Jayni Carey will prepare the following recipes that come from “Sodas, Smoothies, Spirits, & Shakes,” by Todd Wilbur.

A new show debuts at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 and repeats at 8:30 p.m. The show is also broadcast at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. Sunday and 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Starbucks Frozen Coffee Frappuccino

3/4 cup double-strength coffee, cold

1 cup low-fat milk

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 cups ice

Make double-strength coffee by brewing with twice the coffee required by your coffee maker. That should be 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per each cup of coffee. Chill before using.

To make drink, combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until ice is crushed and drink is smooth. Pour into two 16-ounce glasses and serve with a straw. Makes 2 large drinks.

Mr & Mrs T Bloody Mary Mix

1 46-ounce can tomato juice

4 tablespoons lime juice

3 tablespoons juice from canned jalapeños (nacho slices)

3 tablespoons vinegar

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons prepared horseradish

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/8 teaspoon onion powder

dash garlic

Combine all ingredients in a 2-quart pitcher. Store covered in the refrigerator.

Directions for mixing a drink, as per the original mix: Add 3 parts Mr and Mrs T Rich & Spicy Bloody Mary Mix to 1 part vodka, gin, rum or tequila, over ice. Mr & Mrs T Rich & Spicy Bloody Mark Mix also delicious by itself. Simply pour over ice and serve. Makes 52 ounces.

McDonald’s Shamrock Shake

2 cups vanilla ice cream

1 1/4 cups low-fat milk

1/4 teaspoon mint extract (not peppermint)

8 drops green food coloring

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth. Stop blender to stir with a spoon if necessary to help blend ice cream. Pour into two 12-ounce cups and serve each with a straw. Serves 2.
