Jones Double Winner: Lawrence’s Abby Jones won the Level 9 floor and vault competition at the Kansas State meet in Wichita. Jones placed fourth in the all-around and qualified for the regional meet in Oklahoma.

Baseball Clinic: A Five-Tool Baseball School for youths in grades one through eight will be Saturday and Sunday. For information, call Mike Hill at 766-4916.

Youth Baseball Draft: Player evaluation and draft for the Houk-Ice (ages 13-14) and Holcom (ages 15-17) summer baseball leagues will be April 5-6. Mat Gold: Brandon Goodwin and Jesse Hardy of the Jayhawk Kids Wrestling Club won gold medals at the Northeast Kansas sub-district in Bonner Springs. Seconds went to Michael Goble, Zack Toelkes and Scott Deo. Cole Deo finished third. Fourths went to Caleb Gress and Kenny Flanders. All eight qualified for the district meet in Ottawa. Chris Coons and Emma Mercer are provisional qualifiers. Jacob Warren, who posted a fourth place, was the only qualifier from the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club.

City Pin Winners: Nancy Payne and Dixie Greeno each shot 666 to win the singles championship at last month’s Lawrence Women’s Bowling Assn. tournament. Pam Dunn and Jodi Lybarger combined for a 1,255 to win the doubles crown. Brenda Burton won all-events with a 1,931. Watch Us Burn earned the team title with a 2,971. Team members were Jennifer Davids, Ann Newschafer, Diane Krieder, Maria Burton and Polly Sexton.

West Earns Gold: Meredith West of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the all-around in the Level 7 portion of the state championship last week in Wichita. LGA’s Sara Hase earned a third in all-around. Other LGA placers were Morgan Harris, Sarah Athey, April Miller and Chelsey Ornburn.

Heitzman Wins: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the ages 70-74 division of the St. Pat’s 8K Sunday in Wichita. His time was 34:43.

USD 497 Golf League: A golf league for USD 497 employees and their spouses is being offered at Orchards Golf Course. There will be an informational meeting at 5 p.m. April 4 at the golf course, with a free round of golf available afterward. For information, contact Chuck Mead at 843-7456.

State Gymnastics Meet: Level 8 gymnasts from the Lawrence Gymnastics Academy competed in the Kansas State Gymnastics Meet March 14 in Wichita. Ashley Sakumura finished first in the vault and uneven bars, and was third in the all-around for the 14-year-old division. In the 11-year-old division, Amelia Firns-Hubert was first in the balance beam, second in the vault, bars and floor exercise and second in the all-around competition. In the age 15-over division, Jeryka Lobner was second in the bars and floor exercise, third in all-around. Carol Fittell placed third in the bars and beam in the 14-year-old division, and Jessica Williams was fifth in the vault and bars, and eighth in the 13-year-old all-around event. Sakumura and Firns-Hubert qualified for the USAG Region III championships, which will be April 12-13 in Dallas.
