Jayhawks blank Bears

? Kansas University’s 19th-ranked baseball team earned its second straight road victory Tuesday by defeating Southwest Missouri State, 2-0, at Price Cutter Park.

The Jayhawks, who improved to 19-6, pushed a run across in the second and eighth innings with a fielder’s choice by Travis Metcalf and an RBI-single by Brandon Shepard.

Kansas used four pitchers to record its second shutout of the season and first combined shutout. Sophomore right-hander Kenny Falconer (1-0) picked up the win working two innings of relief for starter Pat Holmes.

Falconer faced eight batters, allowing one hit and striking out two. Junior right-hander Brandon Johnson, a Free State High product, earned his second save by not allowing a hit in 11¼3 innings.

The Jayhawks will play host to Tabor College at 4 p.m. today at Hoglund Ballpark. KU freshman Don Czyz will make his first career start for the Jayhawks.
