Local activists plan to continue peace rallies

In Lawrence, peace rallies and vigils will continue if the United States and Iraq go to war.

Peace activists are planning a candlelight vigil at the Douglas County Courthouse as the first bombs fall.

If war starts during the day in Lawrence, the candlelight vigil will be at 7 p.m. that night, said organizers Melinda Morris-Black and Allan Hanson. If the war starts at night, the vigil will be the next night, they said.

In addition, the Saturday afternoon peace rallies at the courthouse, organized by the Lawrence Coalition for Peace and Justice, will continue.
