Allen-Smith

Kara Allen, Melbourne, Australia, and Alexander Smith, London, were married July 8, 2002, at the Danforth Chapel in Lawrence with the Rev. William Vogler officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Rand and Gail Allen, Lawrence. The groom is the son of David and Susan Smith, Nottingham, England.

Maid of honor was Katherine Allen. Best man was James Smith. Bridesmaids were Suzy Allen and Christy Allen. Groomsmen were James Campbell and John Richmond-Scott.

James Smith and Paula Koch read scriptures. Organist was Patsy Lankford. Christy Allen was violin soloist. Ushers were Owen Jones and Nicholas Allen. Guest book attendants were Vanessa Vanek and Sarah Bailey.

A reception followed the ceremony at Alvamar Country Club.

The bride is a 1993 graduate of Brisbane Girls’ Grammar School, Queensland, Australia. She graduated with honors in 2000 from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. She earned degrees in medicine, surgery and medical science. She is undertaking a residency in anesthetics and general medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.

The groom is a 1993 graduate of Broxtowe College. He graduated with honors in 1998 from Exeter University, where he earned a law degree. He attended Kansas University, where he worked on a master’s program in political science. He completed the bar course at the Innes Court School of Law and passed the bar exams in 2000. He completed his pupillage as a barrister at 29 Bedford Row and practiced as a barrister at 4 Paper Buildings in London before moving to Melbourne.

The couple reside in Melbourne.

Laird-Leonardi

Kathleen Grace Laird and Christopher Daniel Leonardi, both of Overland Park, were married Nov. 16, 2002, in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., with the Rev. Donald Goodrum officiating.

The bride is the daughter of David and Mary Lee Laird, Fairview, Pa. The groom is the son of Gary and Celeste Leonardi, Lawrence.

Matron of honor was Julie Almeida. Best man was Kris Weidling. Bridesmaids were Laurie Demeter, Jennifer Laird, Rachele DiBacco, Jennifer Evanoff, Denise Murphy and Heather Hughes Turner. Groomsmen were David Nepsky, John Laird, Tom Devlin, Aaron Russel, Brian Clifton, Jeff Green and Mike Scott.

Readers were Marion Eisert, Jefri Leonardi, June Nepsky and Bridget Miller. Glenn Leonardi composed and performed a song written for the couple.

A reception followed the ceremony.

The bride is a graduate of Mercyhurst Preparatory High School, Erie, Pa. She received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio. She earned master’s degrees in health administration and human resource management from Washington University in St. Louis. She is starting her own training and development business.

The groom received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kansas University. He received a doctorate in chiropractic from the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Mo. He is a chiropractor in Overland Park.

The couple reside in Overland Park.
