Agnes Pine Strobel

? Services for Agnes Marie Pine Strobel, 94, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. March 22 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.

Mrs. Strobel died Friday, March 14, 2003, at a Topeka retirement home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Lawrence, the daughter of Clarence E. and Gertrude (Epley) Pine. She graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Kansas University. She received her bachelor of education degree in 1959 and her master of education degree in 1968, both from Washburn University. She moved from Eudora to Topeka in 1946.

Mrs. Strobel taught rural schools in Jefferson and Douglas counties for six years. She started the kindergarten program in the Pauline schools and taught there for 19 years before she retired in 1974. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and served as president of United Methodist Women and Downtown Opti Mrs. Club, Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens, Sheltered Living Inc. and Evangeline Chapter No. 162, Order of Eastern Star in Baldwin. She also was a life member of Washburn Alumni Assn. and a member of the national, state and local National Education Assn.

She married Vernon B. Strobel on March 18, 1934, in Lawrence. He died Jan. 7, 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Laurel Lynn Bowen, Lawrence, and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home.
