Swaim services

Graveside services for Charline Mildred Swaim, 89, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vinland Cemetery.

She died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Swaim was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Tampa, Kan., the daughter of Charles E. and Ada R. (Miller) Yates.

She graduated from the Kansas University School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for Research Hospital in Chicago. She moved to Baldwin, where she worked as a nurse in her father’s medical practice. She worked as a first-aid nurse for the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. Mrs. Swaim also was an Avon consultant.

She married Earl Cottle in 1937 and they later divorced.

She married Alfred D. Swaim on Jan. 14, 1954, in Cass County, Mo. He died Sept. 9, 1989.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Hofmann, Lawrence; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Bruce E. Cottel, and a grandson died earlier.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Leukemia Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
