Strudwick, Davis lead Australian Open

? A course-record score has England’s Suzanne Strudwick in a position to challenge for her first victory in 12 years.

Strudwick shot an 8-under 64 in windy conditions Saturday for a share of the third-round lead in the Women’s Australian Open.

Strudwick, looking for the third win of her career, matched compatriot Laura Davies at 10-under 206 on the Terrey Hills course. Davies had a 73.

“Yes, I’m long overdue for a win, very much so,” said Strudwick, who had nine birdies and a bogey to break the course record set Thursday by Davies. “I haven’t been in this position for a long time … but I have won before so it’s not that this is brand new.”

Defending champion Karrie Webb (74) was four strokes back, along with fellow Australian Rachel Teske (70), Wales’ Becky Morgan (68), American Jackie Gallagher-Smith (70), Scotland’s Mhairi McKay (71) and England’s Joanne Morley (72).

“If it’s windy like this tomorrow, I’ve got a good chance,” Webb said.
