KU workshop offers tips to avoid identity theft

Kansas University officials will offer a workshop Monday on preventing identity theft.

The workshop, sponsored by Legal Services for Students, is free to the public. It runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in 110 Budig.

Topics will include how identity theft occurs, how to prevent it and what to do if personal information is stolen.

Identity theft became a major topic on campus after a hacker stole personal information on international students last month from a university computer server.

Seminar to teach budgeting techniques

Consumer Credit Counseling Services will present a “Discover More Dollars” workshop from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the United Way Building, 2518 Ridge Court.

The workshop, sponsored by the United Way of Douglas County, will cover financial topics such as goal setting, developing a budget, cutting costs, evaluating spending habits and starting a savings plans.
