Woods to play in Buick Open
Grand Blanc, Mich. ? Tiger Woods will defend his title at the Buick Open and try to become the first player in more than 35 years to win the event in consecutive years.
The tournament will be played July 31-Aug. 3 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club, about 60 miles northwest of Detroit, and will be Woods’ only event between the British Open and the PGA Championship.
The Buick endorser will attempt to become the first player to win the tournament in consecutive years since Tony Lema in 1965. U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk is also scheduled to compete.
“As long as I’m winning tournaments, I’ll happily fit them into my schedule the next year,” Woods said by videoconference from Orlando, Fla., Thursday.
Last year, Woods closed with a 2-under 70 to win by four shots at 17 under for his 33rd PGA Tour victory.
