Gottstein services

? Services for Bernice Gottstein, 95, Baldwin, will be at 2 p.m. today at Vinland Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Vinland Cemetery.

Mrs. Gottstein died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Baldwin Care Center.

She was born June 19, 1908, near Vinland, the daughter of Byron Isadore and Nellie Maude (Tucker) Holmes. She attended Stony Point School. She later attended Baker University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1964.

Mrs. Gottstein moved in 1930 to Vinland, where she lived on a farm with her husband for 66 years.

She taught at Harmony, Prospect and Welcome one-room schoolhouses in southern Douglas County. She left teaching to be a homemaker for 13 years and later returned to teach at Vinland Elementary School for 29 years. She retired in 1972.

Mrs. Gottstein participated in E.H.U. and Vinland Grange and was a member of Vinland Church of Christ. She helped with the pet parade and flower show at Vinland Grange Fair.

She married Fred E. Gottstein on April 23, 1930, in Lawrence. He died March 10, 2003.

Survivors include a sister, Violet Anderson, Baldwin; four nephews; five nieces; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin.
