George James ‘Chief’ Allen Jr.

Leavenworth Graveside services with military honors for George James “Chief” Allen Jr., 67, Oskaloosa, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Leavenworth V.A. National Cemetery.

Mr. Allen died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Veterans Affairs Hospital, Leavenworth.

He was born March 10, 1936, in Mayetta, the son of George James and Agnes Marie Allen. He graduated from McLouth High School in 1957 and was a lifelong resident of the Oskaloosa area.

Mr. Allen was a salvage worker for Kaw Motors Salvage Yard in Lawrence for many years and had worked at General Leasing Salvage in Oskaloosa. He was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomie Tribe in Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 in Germany.

He married Sue Johnson on July 6, 1962, in Platte City, Mo. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Douglas J. and Rob L., both of Lawrence; a daughter, Sheila L. Johnson, Lawrence; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
