Bradley and Brenda Umholtz

De Soto Services for Bradley Umholtz, 48, and Brenda Umholtz, 45, both of Clearview City, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto. Cremation is planned.

The Umholtzes died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, after a semitrailer they were in went through a guardrail on Wyandotte Street Bridge in De Soto and fell into the Kansas River.

Mr. Umholtz was born April 2, 1955, in Newton, the son of Willard and Evelyn Umholtz. Mrs. Umholtz was born Dec. 29, 1957, in St. Francis, the daughter of Vernon C. Jarvis and Janice A. Merklin-Jarvis.

They were married May 8, 1976. They both worked for Gainey Transportation Services. Mr. Umholtz was a mechanic for Hunt Midwest of De Soto rock quarry, worked for Santa Fe Railroad and for Sauders Manufacturing as a welder. Mrs. Umholtz was a hypnotist and drove for Hunt Midwest.

Survivors include a daughter, Sara Umholtz, Clearview City, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Umholtz’s survivors also include his father and stepmother, Willard and Sharon Umholtz, Cottonwood Falls; a brother, Randy, Lebo; and a sister, Jacqueline Umholtz, Emporia.

Mrs. Umholtz’s survivors also include her mother, Lawrence; two sisters, Kathleen Lehmann, Smith Center, and Carla Enacott, Lawrence; and a brother, Kent Jarvis, Ellinwood.

Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the memorial chapel.
