Wilson accepts penalty; Casey, Guillen appealing

St. Louis — Cincinnati pitcher Paul Wilson began serving a five-game suspension Thursday for his part in a brawl last week, while teammates Jose Guillen and Sean Casey are appealing penalties from separate run-ins.

“It’s people fighting for what they believe in,” Wilson said.

Wilson started Wednesday night’s game, a 9-6 loss to St. Louis, and will not miss a return in the rotation due to a day off early next week. He tangled with the Cubs’ Kyle Farnsworth last week in Cincinnati.

“Well, it is a suspension,” Wilson said. “I don’t get to hang out with my teammates for five games, at least not in the dugout.”

Guillen was suspended for two games for bumping plate umpire Matt Hollowell while arguing a called third strike as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning Wednesday. Guillen was ejected during a toe-to-toe yelling match after the strikeout.

Indians’ Boyd suspended for bumping umpire

Cleveland — Indians reliever Jason Boyd was suspended three games and fined $1,500 Thursday for bumping umpire Dana DeMuth during an argument last weekend.

Boyd said he would appeal the penalty.
