Henkel services

Memorial services for John L. “Jack” Henkel, 69, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Henkel died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was cremated.

He was born Aug. 26, 1933, in Bird City, the son of Henry and Bertha E. (Talmon) Henkel. He graduated from Bird City High School and attended Kansas University.

Mr. Henkel was involved in stock car racing for many years. He worked in the insurance business and then became a self-employed mobile home mover. He retired early for health reasons.

He married Dottie Johnson in Bird City. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Cassandra Shonfelt, Lenexa; his mother, Bertha E. Bacon, Saint Francis; a brother, Roland, Parker, Colo.; and two granddaughters.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
