Westar seeks to fill vacancies on board of directors

Westar officials have hired an Overland Park-based consulting firm to find two new members to serve on the company’s board of directors.

Karla Olsen, a spokeswoman with Westar, said the company has hired EFL Associates to find candidates to fill two vacancies on the company’s board of directors.

Olsen said the board hadn’t set a timeline to fill the positions but would like to “have it handled as quickly as possible.” Board members will vote on the candidates, and shareholders will be asked to approve them at the company’s next annual meeting.

The vacancies were created by the resignations of John Dicus, chief executive of Capitol Federal Savings, Gene Budig, former Kansas University chancellor, and Lawrence businessman Frank Becker.

Olsen said the board has chosen to only replace two of the three positions.
