Arts center names scholarship winners

Recipients of the 2003-2004 Carmine Ballere Dance Scholarship are Hannah Peterson and Johanna Mehl. Lacy Shopen was selected as an alternate for the scholarship, awarded through auditions with the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The Carmine Ballere scholarship fund was established in the name of an anonymous donor’s grandfather, with the purpose of rewarding excellence and commitment to dance and rigorous ballet training. The scholarship funds four ballet classes per week at the arts center and participation in the center’s Youth Ballet Company and “A Kansas Nutcracker.”

Eighteen dancers auditioned for this year’s scholarship.

Mickey Mouse the focus of collectibles session

The Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass., continues its June presentation of “Know Your Antiques” with an exhibit from local collector Jeanine Sample.

Sample will share items from her Mickey Mouse memorabilia collection from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday at this month’s “Know Your Collectibles” session. Sample has collected Mickey memorabilia for a quarter-century and has an extensive collection of watches and toys.

The session is free, though a donation to the Friends of Watkins is suggested.
