Soroptimists International of Lawrence had a ceremony to install new officers at its June meeting. Bev Hill conducted the ceremony. The new officers are Connie Boring, president; Jan Dreiling, president-elect; Jude McDaniel, treasurer; Deb Kurtz, secretary; and Jane Bateman and Judy Lebestky, delegates.


  • The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met June 4. Two and a half tables participated in a game that used a Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

The pairs of Bobbi McCorkle and Dick Moore, Al Ballard and Emily Foster, and Helen Huffman and Bob Huffman finished in a three-way tie for first place.


  • The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met June 6. Nine and a half tables competed in a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Competing North-South, Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough finished in first place. Mary Fenlon and Janice Hollowell placed second. Virginia Seaver and Sally Taylor placed third. Betty Collier and Shirley Reese took fourth place in A and first place in B. Phyllis Brownlee and Shirley Vaughn finished second in B. Cathy Blumenfeld and Mike Blumenfeld placed first in C.

Playing East-West, Judy Bevan and Linda Heavin claimed first place in A, B and C. Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui finished second in A. Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks placed third in A and second in B. Lois Clark and Julia Brooks finished fourth in A. Carol Ball and Nita Scales finished second in C.


  • The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday for its weekly competition. Ten tables competed in a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the game.

Sitting North-South, Clyde Romer and Steve Phelps claimed first in A and B. Terry Tolar and Bill Schutzel placed second in A. Russell La Force and Lois Clark finished third in A, second in B and first in C. Jim Mullin and Jeff Reese placed fourth in A. Betty Collier and Shirlie Vaughn finished third in B.

East-West pairs were led by Dave Piro and Donna Johnson in first place. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough finished second. Patt Radford and John Hickey placed third. Dave Rhea and Christie Thomas took fourth place. Chuck Hedges and Don Bush finished first in B and C. Ilse Steinhardt and Bebe Huxtable took second place in B.
