Arkansas men leading NCAA field
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. ? The amazing stamina of Arkansas’ Dan Lincoln and the blazing speed of LSU’s Muna Lee have moved the Razorbacks and Tigers closer to their accustomed spots atop college track and field.
Twenty-two hours after winning the 10,000 meters, Lincoln took the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night to complete an unprecedented sweep of those events. He also became the first American to win three straight NCAA titles in the steeplechase.
Lincoln won the steeplechase by 25 meters over Jordan Desilets of Eastern Michigan.
The Arkansas men are bidding to win their first team title since a string of eight consecutive titles ended in 1999.
With a stunning anchor leg by Lee, a Kansas City, Mo., native, LSU ran the second-fastest women’s 400-meter relay in college history. Lee came back two hours later to place second in the 100-meter final, losing by four-hundredths of a second.
