A storm system Thursday evening swept through northeast Kansas, bringing with it some heavy rains.

The National Weather Service said it had received some reports of flooding in Leavenworth County. The county was under a flash-flood warning until it was canceled about 11 p.m. Thursday. Johnson County was under a small-stream flood advisory scheduled to expire at 12:15 a.m. today.

Victim leads chase after seeing burglary

A Linwood man who had returned Thursday to his house, interrupted a burglary, then chased the suspects until their car crashed, the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The chase ended when the vehicle missed a curve and hit a tree and a mailbox near 174th Street and Kansas Avenue. From there, the two suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran into a field, pursued by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper and two Leavenworth County Sheriff’s deputies.

About two hours later a resident at Interstate 70 and 174th Street noticed one of the suspects hiding in a barn and contacted authorities. The suspect was apprehended, and the second suspect was captured in a nearby field.

Both suspects are being held in Leavenworth County Jail pending charges.

The Sheriff’s Department Thursday night would not release names of people involved in the incident.
